Description from creator Andrew Stone:
Procedural Assemblies Through Play
Game Garden is a digital artwork series made through a game-like process of composition. Rather than beginning with a fixed image, the work begins with a set of rules, objects, and timed actions. Each piece is produced through short sessions of play, where forms are scaled, rotated, clustered, and rearranged using programmed keyboard commands. The canvas becomes a digital landscape, populated by objects that have been collected, altered, and reassembled. Some of these objects begin as 3D scans of classical sculpture. They are reshaped, smoothed, stretched, and distorted until they lose their original identity and become more abstract, open-ended forms. Their surfaces are then transformed through projected color and texture, including palettes drawn from Egon Schiele paintings. Paint becomes material.
Figure becomes texture. Sculpture becomes an atmosphere. The work is built inside Unity, a game engine, and further shaped through digital sculpting tools such as ZBrush. This allows composition to happen through interaction rather than traditional drawing or painting. Each session lasts only two minutes before the slate is wiped clean. Over time, the artist learns the system almost like learning an instrument. The result is a form of
visual improvisation, where repetition, chance, timing, and control all shape the final image. Game Garden explores how digital tools can turn play into composition, and how objects, images, colors, and histories can be recombined into new visual assemblies. The work sits
between painting, sculpture, gaming, and digital collage. It is both constructed and performed.
